Relaxation therapy is the process of getting therapeutic benefits through the simple act of relaxing. In a world that demands complexity, the possibility of obtaining health and well-being from relaxation may be a bit far out at first. But is it really? There are a multitude of relaxation therapies available: yoga, light therapy, colour therapy, sound therapy, essential oils, etc. Of these, I’d like to suggest that meditation is the most effective. You can do it any where, any time, any how and it certainly isn’t going to break the bank.
How Can Relaxation be a Therapy?
Relaxation therapy is one of the best kinds of therapy. Why? Because it is so simple, all you have do is relax and be alive. There is a certain kind of satisfaction that accompanies relaxation. Your organs function so much easier in a relaxed body. Your heart pumps your blood so much more eloquently in a relaxed body. The benefits of relaxation extend beyond the physical into the emotional, mental and spiritual planes.
Youth and Beauty
Debunking the Traditional Ideas of Therapy
What pops into your mind when you reflect on traditional therapy? Physiotherapy, chemotherapy, cosmetic therapy, etc? Most of these therapies focus on one aspect of our beings: the physical. The problem here is that we have many facets to our beings. Traditional therapy very often treats only one aspect at a time. One of the benefits of relaxation through meditation is that it impacts on all levels of your being in a positive way.
There is a multi billion dollar industry around the world that focuses on youth and beauty. Have you ever considered the possibility that youth and beauty are qualities that radiate from within? This isn’t the kind of youth and beauty that adorns the covers of glossy magazines and highway billboards. It is the kind of youth and beauty that you discover within yourself. From a purely physical view point, meditation and relaxation makes it possible for you to tap into the pure aspects of youth and beauty. And as you resonate more with your youthful, beauteous, unique self, your physical body cannot help but respond accordingly.
Stress. Yuck, who needs it? When you are in a state of stress your body releases adrenalin (this precedes the state known as fight or flight state). Many people function in this fight or flight state in every waking moment - yikes! If you don’t practice any stress relief techniques, like the basic relaxation meditation discussed on the next page, there is no guarantee that your body will return to its natural state, relaxed! Being relaxed is not normal, it is natural. Relaxation and meditation make it possible for you to become more detached from the various stresses of society. Detachment is one of the keys you discover from using meditation and relaxation! A powerful assistant to entering a deep state of meditation and relaxation is the use of meditation music.
