Learning meditation for beginners is a basic guideline for people who have never practiced any form of disciplined meditation. These instructions are here to assist you to know what is really required for learning meditation. And to dispel any misconceptions that have been put out there about meditation.
Meditation for Beginners
What is Required of You
The desire to learn.
The desire to learn self-disciplined thinking, or to tap into pure mind.
The desire to still your mind.
The desire to learn and surrender to a state of deep relaxation.
The desire to have fun.
The desire to communicate with Self and learn from Self.
The desire to unlock more fun, love, creativity, adventure and freedom in your life.
The desire to communicate with the divinity within you more clearly. Or to put it another way, the desire to communicate with your soul, spirit, the Godhood of your Being, or God / Goddess / All That Is.
A desire to unlock your imagination. Humanity is now developing its true sixth sense: "The Imagination." As you begin to learn conscious meditation you will unleash that imagination more and more.
Lastly, in the beginning it is good to have a guide quest guide to lead through the process of guided meditation. Although this is not an absolute requirement it is a recommendation.
Now in terms of the last point, it is not an absolute necessity. But when I began learning meditation I had absolutely no clue where to start. So I used a number of tapes to function as guides. Yes, tapes, you know the archaic devices we used to listen to before the arrival of the CD. Anyway, after listening to and following the guided meditations a few times I was able to drop into the meditative state quickly and easily.
Misconceptions that Stop Perfectly Intelligent People from Learning Meditation
Things that meditation beginners don’t need:
You don’t need the ability to wrap your legs around your head.
You don’t need hours and hours of free time every day.
You don’t need to be part of a strange sect or cult.
You don't need to have a perfectly tuned harmonic toning voice.
You don’t need to be able to hold your breath for five hours.
You don’t need to join an ashram or monastery for ten years.
You don't need to finance the Guru's new Rolls Royce.
You don’t need to give up all your worldly possessions!
Adventure Quest Guide
Now, you know what you do not need to do, to start on the pathway to freedom through meditation. One thing I do recommend for the beginner is an Adventure Quest Guide. Someone who guides you through the process of meditation. As I said further up the page the guide is simply there to assist you in the beginning. After a while you are able to meditate continuously on your own.
This is different for specific healing meditations, where the healer takes you through a specific process. However, after working with healing meditations a few times, they become easy to do without assistance. Our adventure quest guides all practice healing and teach self-empowerment in both the
corporate
and informal context. They seek no allegiances nor do they claim: "Our way is the only way." They prefer to work with students who have the desire to become a finder of answers.
